About two years ago, I bought four canvas bags to use in place of paper or plastic bags at the grocery store. These beige bags reside in a box on the corner of a sofa located near the front door, a strategic placement so I have a visual reminder to take the bags with me on shopping trips. Does this work? Umm, in one word, “No.” I am notorious for forgetting to take the bags.
Keep in mind that I do have a very legitimate excuse for forgetting the bags (or so I justify to myself). It takes a lot of time and effort to get two young children dressed properly and out of the door with diaper bag, juices, snacks, and whatever toy-of-the-day has to accompany the toddler to the store.
On occasion, I do make it out of the house with the canvas bags, but, with the commotion of unloading the kids and finding a cart, I am often in the store on Aisle 2 before I recall that I’ve left the bags in the car. So, as my give back idea for this Wednesday, I am going to make a very conscious effort to always take the canvas bags with me (which of course helps the environment, saves a tree, etc…and is better for our community.) In order to jog my memory come Krogering time, I think I will tie-dye my boring, beige bags so they will stand out and catch my eye as I’m hustling out of the door. I also think that I will enlist the help of my four-year-old, who can be very good at reminding me about things that need to be done.
Images of brightly colored canvas bags and an update will follow in a week or two. No doubt a four-year-old and a tie-dye project portend an interesting future post!

I keep mine in the trunk of my car. That way I remember to actually use them.
