Give Back Wednesdays: Surprise Pie

Every Wednesday for the past six months, I have written about some of the contributions I have made to family, friends, the community and the environment.  During the next few months, I will share some of the wonderful “give backs” that I receive from others.

Recently my young children and I were having lunch with my mother at a diner in a small town.  Some of her colleagues from work were also eating at this establishment.  My mom saw them and spoke and I nodded a “hello” to the group as I wrestled my two-year-old into a booster seat.

We placed our order and waited, and waited and waited on our food to arrive.  My mother’s colleagues were finishing their meal and having dessert as we continued to wait.  One member of the group excused himself from the table.  I presumed that he had to get back to work before the others.  A few minutes after his departure, two slices of apple pie arrived at our table.  The waitress told us that the man who just left the diner had sent them over for my little girls.

We smiled with surprise!  I kept thinking of this gentleman’s kind act and how it really made my day.  After we finished our lunch, we were able to catch up with my mother’s colleague.  I was so glad that I had the opportunity to thank him personally for the pie – which, by the way, was very delicious!

I love hearing stories like this. :) The world is FULL of good samaritans – but it’s the “bad guys” that make headlines. I will never understand why.

Thanks for the book suggestions, btw. My husband will love them!
